Giving Back Never Sounded So Good
While I never felt much pride for my alma mater American University, I have fond memories of and much pride for the many clubs and activities in which I took part. When WVAU, American University's campus radio station, approached me to redesign their station's website, I eagerly accepted without hesitation.
Broadcasting Rock n' Roll Into Space
WVAU has a sordid history, as long ago American University gave up its real "campus station", WAMU, to be used by NPR and local public radio. As such, WVAU has always had the stigma of being a consolation prize, and has never had much of a following from students. This website design set out to change that, by providing a central voice to the network and owning its Internet-only presence with a full music blog. This is most clear in the header area, where the Fender amplifier and satellite dish show WVAU broadcasting out its vibrant message to the heavens, featuring a music player that updates to show the current radio show at all times, a Wordpress plugin developed especially for this website.
Since launch, the student-run organization has been able to foster a sense of community on their site, and has allowed the students to not just play, but blog about the music that they love.
